Half way through a full days birding in the Fylde today, just at home at the moment for something to eat, 69 species so far including 6 yearticks: White Fronted Goose, Little Owl, Brambling, Stock Dove, Great Crested Grebe, Sanderling. Hoping for at least another 8 this afternoon if all goes well and also my new camera has just arrived o:D So I'm going to be testing it out shortly, will report back later

My day didn't particularly go to plan as I didn't get out of bed till 12 so missed the chance to get to Marton Mere in the morning. An afternoon walk along the beach at Fleetwood with my parents produced the hoped for Ringed Plover and also a Shag moving north offshore (not a common bird here), I'm on 117 now.

82 - Waxwing (x90 at Longforgan roundabout, Perth and Kinross)
83 - Hawfinch (x30 at Scone Palace, Perth and Kinross, lifer)
84 - Rock Pipit
85- Velvet Scoter (Buckhaven, Fife)
86 - Common Scoter (Buckhaven, Fife)
87 - Mediterranean Gull (x2 adults at Buckhaven, Fife)
88 - Grey Wagtail
89 - Black Redstart (x1 male at Crail Fife)
90 - Meadow Pipit

A very good day out more or less twitching some birds in the counties of Perth and Kinross and Fife respectively. Above our the results, the highlights are in bold. 30 Hawfinches at Scone Palace (a renowned site for them) was obviously the main highlight - a fantastic number that I wasn't expecting and a lifer for me. The views were poor due to bad light, but mostly because they were so flighty (I mainly got flight views). Very good views of the Med Gulls at Buckhaven were obtained, and similarly good views of the Black Redstart at Crail. For more information on the day, please check my blog over the next few days, which will account the day in much more detail.

95 now (including the harrier as I have not seen hen harrier yet

Good point, I had never thought of that. Anyone who has seen the Northern Harrier can count it but just as Hen Harrrier for now, it might get split later so folk who have seen it can get a nice armchair tick. I reckon they'll split it, birders are just sitting around twideling their thumbs waiting for it to happen.

Yeah, we are like said its a now a species
Wherre do they stand on other races though?

Eg, Northwestern, and Hornemann's Arctic versus Coues'?

Northwestern, if it is considered a race, is it Mealy, Lesser or Arctic?

Meally Redpoll - Full species

Lesser Redpoll - Full species

Arctic Redpoll - Full species, the two races are not counted as being separate species.

As Andrew says the BOU count Lesser Redpoll (Carduelis cabaret), Mealy Redpoll (Carduelis flammea) and Arctic Redpoll (Carduelis hornemanni) as seperate species

Aus Teen Birder
Not the only one!

Hey all,

I was directed here by an admin/moderator who said this was a thread for 'teen/younger birders'. Would I be correct in saying that this is purely a thread birders under the age of 20?!

Wow! I have a few mates here in Sydney who are also very avid teen birders, but it's great to see how many there are of us across the globe!

Look forward to getting to know/conversing with you guys!

Cheers,

P.S Feel free to add me on Facebook.

Welcome to BirdForum Max. This thread is mainly for young birders, yes. You'll find plenty of information (though most of it probably relating to UK birding) and some good banter here.
