I went to Rainham today. Good views of Sedge, Reed and Garden Warbler but, in general, not much about and no year ticks. However, considering the weather it was probably a good choice and there does not seem to have been much anywhere else today.

I'm helping out with a birding tour tomorrow in the Blue Mountains, should get 3 or 4 year ticks (and maybe I'll finally find a Pilotbird too!) o:D

Wow I've not updated in a while! Been so busy with my exams (done 5/9 now) that I haven't had much time to go birding or update this. Anyway the new table is above so I would check your name incase I have missed off any updates.

Did a 45 minute seawatch today off Rossall Point being battered about by the wind coming straight in off the sea, however this produced the goods with 72 Manx Shearwaters north along with 8 Gannet, 1 Fulmar and 9 auks. 179 for the year now all in Lancashire.

I really love the blog :)

I haven't been able to go out recently as exams are approaching but I'm going on a 3 day birding trip to SW wales so I'm hoping for maybe a dozen lifers :)

182 - Pectoral Sandpiper (x1 at Rigifa Pool)
183 - Arctic Skua (Rattray Head)

A pretty good day's birding today. The start of the day saw me at Rigifa Pool - where the highlight bird of the day, a smart Pectoral Sandpiper , was seen at close quarters - my 4th sighting of this species. Also on the pool was my second sighting Avocet in Scotland within a week - a lone bird hanging around near the Pec Sand. This is third Avocet I've had within a week, counting the two at Strathbeg last week. Those Strathbeg birds were my first in Scotland, so this Avocet was a very noteworthy sighting as well. The rest of the day didn't live up to the quality of the start of the day but was enjoyable nonetheless. 2 drake Garganey were lovely to see at Strathbeg, as were 4 Little Gulls (including one stunning adult sumplum bird) and 2 Ospreys . Meanwhile seawatching was quiet off the nearby Rattray, with one dark phase Arctic Skua being the highlight. Finally, at the Ythan there were a further 2 Ospreys .

The weather seems to be indicating that the dreaded westerly winds will be easing and that a fine spell of weather may be coming our way. If this is the case, I will be getting up to Speyside at the nearest opportunity - possibly next weekend.

An excellent day today. I am back in the Peak District this week though will not have that much time to birdwatch. However, today I was organised and did my work early before going to the Peak District. As we nearly got there I saw a Little Owl, my first of the year.

After doing another hour work, I checked the bird sightings at about 4.30 and there was a Lesser Yellowlegs only half an hour drive away at Uttoxeter Quarry. Amazingly I managed to persuade my mum to take me and had excellent views. A lifer for me. There was also a nice selection of other waders including Sanderling, Dunlin and Ringed Plover.

Following the owl and the yellowlegs, I have now reached 163 for the year.

Had a fab day today around the county. Was planning to go to cockersands in the morning to look for little stint and curlew sandpiper however my plans quickly changed and I was rushing down to Brockholes to see a stunning summer plumaged Spotted Sandpiper! o:Do:D A gorgeous bird which and a lifer for me, which was then followed later in the day by a pair of Avocets at cockersands, a fylde yeartick for me.

225 - Terek Sandpiper - Low Hauxley, Northumberland

Another truly spectacular trip to Norfolk with the above bolded birds being lifers. Highlight of Norfolk trip had to be the Golden Oriole; had pretty good views of a bird perched up for about 10 seconds or so. Tried to get my scope set up to look at it but it flew off. Frustrating as I could have just watched it for longer in binoculars but not to worry. Saw another Golden Oriole fly by on Monday at Lakenheath but not as good a view as I had on Friday. Golden Pheasant was another highlight as it was sitting about 12ft in front of me feeding. What a truly stunning bird! Also we traveled to see a Red-necked Phalarope at Frampton Marsh Lincolnshire and then when we went to Welney NWT on Sunday whilst we were there 2 turned up on site!:-O So we had 3 Red-necked Phalaropes, but sadly we dipped out on the Bluethroat.

Finally got home about 6 last night and jumped in the car and went up to Low Hauxley. Got into the hide and no one about and no sign of the bird. Heard a strange wader call and it came and landed on shore opposite the hide! Bird fairly flighty and calling a lot, also gave me the run around but in the end enjoyed some excellent views. I really loved the Terek having missed 2 in Durham in the past 3 years.

Amazing trip and report to follow on my blog soon.
