Not had a new species in a while! Had a near fatal car crash last Wednesday which has left me without transport and having several hospital/doctors visits!
Hopefully will be sorted in time for Autumn migration!

:O hope your ok!
Autumns not far away now so hope your back up birding soon.
Going away tomorrow but will have internet acsess, so no trouble but ive still had time for some twitching:
White rumped sandpiper, saltholme rspb 223 (lifer)
Good luck for the summer!

153) Grasshopper Warbler
154) Cetti's Warbler
155) Spotted Flycatcher

Been a long time since I have come up with anything new for this years list, not that I am much of a lister but sometimes you can't help yourself but keep up the tally. Been ringing down at the Porzana factory in East Sussex, great place and there on migration in the next couple of weeks. Aim to maybe get to 160 but I'm more for ringing than listing.

|8.| Hope you get better Oliver!

Managed to get out for a sunny afternoon to Idle Valley NR, ticked two new species for the year:

188) Turtle Dove
189) Yellow-legged Gull

Oh, and missed...

190) Western Bonelli's Warbler
191) Bittern

Still missing (usually) easy-to-find birds such as Spotted Flycatcher. Unfortunately seem to be getting very scarce...

204 - Sooty Shearwater (x2 off Girdle Ness)

With the strong northerly winds of late I spent a couple of hours sea-watching off my local patch Girdle Ness. The highilghts were 2 Sooty Shearwaters, a valuable yeartick and always great to see. Otherwise there was a reasonable passage with 3 Whimbrels, 3 Red-throated Divers, 11 Bonxies, 3 Arctic Skuas and a Manxie.

It's great to see you back TJ, this thread is still going strong. I have just read your latest blog post about your trip to El Hondo -a fab selection of birds and some great photos, well done :t:

My time in Brazil is now coming to an end as I am flying home tomorrow. I have seen some fantastic species with highlights including Scarlet Ibis, Channel-billed Toucan, Sao Paulo Antwren and Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle. The total number I have seen here is now 243 and I may get a few more on route to the airport.

Awesome :t: We started at the visitor center and walked to the hides on the left if I remember correctly. Its a truly fantastic reserve in my opinion, Last winter I was watching 2 Spotted eagles that were overwintering there, Beautiful birds. Oh and had not 1 but 3 Little Bitterns last time around as well, was quite chuffed with that ;)

Hi Marcus,

It's great to see you on here Marcus, as others have said this is a fantastic thread full of very kind people and you're bound to get in to some interesting discussions! It would be awesome if you joined the yearlist competition, having seen a whole host of birds when you were volunteering at Strathbeg (including Black Kite = very envious :t:) , I'm sure it would be pretty high!

When I heard about you going to the Malta Raptor Camp I was incredibly jealous! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time there and I can't wait to hear about it :t: . And in combination with coming back up to volunteer at Strathbeg before or after, truly awesome :t: ! Will look forward to seeing you again when and hopefully if you do come back up to Strathbeg - hopefully we can organise a full day's birding this time o:) .

Joseph

Thanks Joseph!! I arrive back in Scotland on 15th October. Really looking foward to Strathbegs autumn migrants!! We should defo go birding again, looks like its always worth a trip to the Ythan estuary!

Thanks to everyone else who's kindly welcomed me :t:

Sorry for the late reply been doing alot of birding recently, highlights being - Yellow Wagtail, Quail and Spotted Redshank.

Off to Wales for a few days hopefully going to get a few ticks while im there!!

I am now back home from Brazil. I even saw 4 new species (American Kestrel, Limpkin, White-rumped Monjita and Crested Black Tyrant) on the journey to the airport bringing my total to 247. All in all, a fantastic trip.

Hopefully I'll get some birdwatching done in the UK in the next couple of weeks but it will be a far cry from the quality of birds in Brazil.

What an ideal time to be coming back Marcus! You're guaranteed to get a few decent things then ;) . Hopefully won't be inundated by work like I was last time so I would definitely be up for going to Strathbeg, the Ythan and elsewhere with you at some point around that time. Well done on some decent birds recently, did you see Quail (s) or just hear them? If you saw them very well done - they're very hard to see! Good luck on Wales mate, will look forward to hearing how you get on :t:

I hope so!! Fingers crossed there are some good birds over my stay in Scotland. Although its going to take something big to beat Black Kite and King Eider in one day up in at the Loch and Ythan!!

Sadly I only heard four different individual Quail; they never showed themselves. But its at one of my local patches so I will defo be back.

Wales is going great thanks Joseph!! Had stunning views of Whimbrel this morning but dipped on a Med Gull!!

Off now to hunt for the elusive Chough and abit of Sea watching. I will let you all know how I get on.

Regards

Marcus

Just some updates for past week or so. White-rumped Sandpiper was my second bird in Durham. Seawatching the past few days have produced at least 48 Storm Petrels for me, this event is a first ever for East coast of England and is unlikely to ever be repeated. Its just strange! Also got my first 3 Great Skuas of the year whilst seawatching.
