Fantastic stuff Oliwier, how many records had there been in Poland before your record?

Things are pretty slow moving at the moment for me as well, but with a likely trip to Shetland in early September (as well as Norfolk later on and at the end of this month) the tide should hopefully turn. Has anyone else got trips planned for the autumn?

In my city(Bialystok,NE Poland) the last breeding case of Crested Lark was in 1994 and that was the date of the last observation of this species in Bialystok and vicinity before my record. So Galerida cristata hasn't been recorded in my city for 18 years.
But in the rest part of Poland Crested Lark is regular (locally common) breeding species.

In autumn I'm going to find my "own" pair of Eurasian Pygmy Owl,also next week I will probably go to search some rare waders on Siemianowka reservoir.Bird news in English from my region here : http://www.avestom.com/?page_id=26 There is also "my" Crested Lark ;)

Thanks for the information Oliwier, interesting to know that Crested Lark is locally mega rare for you rather than nationally, makes it all the more exciting.

It was nice to come across a Wood Sand at Strathbeg yesterday. Otherwise things are still quite slow moving, but maybe the weather in the next few days will make a change to that.

Up to 204 with 6 Little Stints at Strathbeg amongst a good array of passage waders today. Other highlights included 2 Spotshanks on the Ythan, male Redstart at Collieston and Merlin at Rattray, hopefully the start of more productive birding to come.

Sorry about not posting for a while Joe, but until fairly recently I haven't had much to post about!

I'm now on 197 for the year, recent highlights being Alpine Swift, Dartford Warblers, Stilt Sandpiper, my very first Roseate Terns, Goshawks and a fantasic Honey Buzzard. Some shots below.

Cheers, Sam

No worries at all Sam. Glad things have improved for your birding wise recently, though it does sound like you haven't done all too badly ;). You have a cracking set of pics there; keep up the good work.

Off down to Norfolk over the weekend and early next week, before heading off to Shetland for 5 days in a couple of weeks time; should hopefully produce a few things.

Hi all,

sorry I haven't been in contact for a while. Have been on a few holidays recently including a week long trip to the Isle of Sheppey, a nine day trip to Germany and a four day visit to the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Sheppey was rather quite (unsurprisingly given the time of year (July)) the highlights being Turtle Doves, Marsh Harriers, nesting Barn Owls and Mediterranean Gull all in the front garden of our accommodation. Other highlights included Bearded Tit, and non-bird highlights included Stoat, very tame Hedgehogs and a few dragonfly species including Black-tailed Skimmer and Emperor Dragonfly.

Germany was a lot more exciting (mainly because of the large number of Butterfly life ticks!) including Large Copper, Painted Lady, Brown Hairstreak, Purple Hairstreak, Berger's Clouded Yellow, Grayling and Map Butterfly. Birds were also numerous all of which I found by getting to various local spots by bike. The highlights being Black Storks, Osprey, Pied Flycatcher, Wood Sandpiper, Red-backed Shrikes, Firecrest whilst Black Redstarts seemed to be as common as Robins in Britain. On the other hand Robins were a lot more elusive and I only saw two on my entire visit, hidden in deep cover in dense woodland! The best part of the trip however was having three life ticks in the space of a few seconds, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Short-toed Treecreeper and Crested Tit! I also stopped of at the beach near Calais and had no fewer than 45 Kentish Plovers, another lifer. The Isle of Wight trip on the other hand was less productive, the highlight being Dartford Warbler, the occasional Redstart and hunting Peregrines.

I also have a trip planned for the Isles of Scilly at the beginning of September which should help boost my year list (as I notice I am slipping back into 11th place). Will also be spending a few days going up to Scotland to help my sister move into here new university so might be able to fit in a bit of birding, it depends. And finally, I'm moving down to Cornwall to study Environmental Science at uni so the birding should definitely improve. With the summer being a little more hectic than usual my year list total has only risen to 172 with Dartford Warbler and Red-backed Shrike being some of the most recent additions (obviously I haven't added any of the life ticks and year ticks I got abroad)

Hi Samuel, good to hear from you again. Sounds like you had a fantastic time abroad in Germany and also in Calais. Which part of Scotland is your sister going to uni in? I might be able to give advice on some good birding places nearby, especially if its on the east coast. Also congrats on your move down to Cornwall; great birding is no doubt coming your way.

Hi Joseph,

I'll be going with her to St Andrews (and staying in the neighbouring village of Anstruther) for about three or four days. We might stop of on the way up, perhaps passing Holy Island for a day, depending on accommodation space. I've never been on the east coast of Scotland before so any advice on birding hotspots would be much appreciated.

Cornwall should definitely boost my year list and life list as my home county of Hertfordshire is rather dull at the moment with the best birds in the county probably being Whinchats (not a lot obviously). Cornwall on the other hand has Fea's Petrel only today!

Samuel

Had some good birds and mega times of late, including Barred warblers, Broad Billed Sandpipers, Long Tailed Skuas (lifer), Greenish Warblers, Fully spooned pom, Sooty Shearwaters and Red Crested Pochard on patch while Andrew found a Med Gull. Enjoying birding very much at the minute, with a lot of time in the field.

Year list is now on 259

Hi guys, I haven't posted here in a while. I recently went on a trip to California and found 31 lifers. My yearlist is currently at 203, latest bird being Pectoral Sandpiper in Jackson, South Carolina.
