Wild, Wild West ................... ern Spindalis
I did quite a double-take when I spotted a Chesnut-sided Warbler otuside my bedroom today. I knew migrants were moving through in good number, so I dedicated an hour at Jones Beach to migrant seraching. Found a Veery, 2 Baltimore Orioles, a Scarlet Tanager, a pair of Purple Finches, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet and a Nashville Warbler among few other, but more common species.

I go garden birdwatching every day ;). Recently up to 5 Long-tailed Tits, a Coal Tit, and my dad reports a juvenile Goldfinch with the usual pair. Also had a Sparrowhawk soaring over school today, livened up an otherwise boring day!

nothing new here...I did see something pretty cool though! Yesterday I stumbled across a Loggerhead Shrike eating a Skink! I have never seen this bird eat anything before so it was really cool! I wish I could have seen the Shrike catch the Skink but oh well...

Nice one! Don't know how common Loggerhead shrikes are, where you are, but in England Shrikes aren't that common, and i've only seen one (a Red backed shrike) before. And to see it eating! Then again, i haven't seen a Skink before either...

red backs are great (you may have guessed i like them) i just hate that regular wintering great grey at elveden which is physically impossible to see

I would love to see a Shrike.
Yesterday I went to Rutland Water and saw 43 species of birds. Including 2 lifers. 1 of them was a Shag and the other was the rarest bird I have seen yet a Lesser Scaup.
Heres a picture of the Shag

In Poland Red-backed Shrikes are common. Northern (Great Grey) Shrikes aren't very uncommon too. Woodchat and Lesser Grey Shrike are very rare.

I've never seen any Shrike with small bird, but I saw Red-backed Shrikes with insects and Nothern Shrike's hunt.

Sam, Congratulations great obserwations!

Good sightings all! At Jamaica Bay today I had an American Avocet, a Baird's Sandpiper, and a freak American Pipit among others. Photos on my BF blog.
