Hey everyone, I figured I should introduce myself. I'm from Ontario, Canada and am 16. I have been birding from pretty much the day I was born. I have currently seen 307species in Ontario and 727 worldwide. It'll be great to get to know some of you.

Dan

Welcome Dan! Is Northern Wheatear one of the more recent additions to your very nice ON list?

weathers looking good for this weekend so after spending half term stuck inside while everyone else is getting good birds, its time for some payback time!

had an amazing day at the north norfolk coast yesterday, after tramping around a bog for an hour and seeing nothing, my dad and i were leaving when my dad spots the great grey shrike, my biggest bogey bird! as i am watching it my dad then turns around and sees an immature hen harrier flying past, i get on it and spend a minute watching it quater the bog before flying off, turn around and the shrike is still on its perch and hovering. Moving on to the wells/warham green area, two great white egrets give themselves up after a while on the saltmarsh. Theyre monstrous beasts!!! 2 lifers, three year ticks and there is no place like north norfolk on form!

Sounds like a great day! I saw the Great white egret at Leighton moss a few weeks ago. I love to see Shrikes, and at Spurn a Month back, i got a quick view of my third species of Shrike - Great grey, and however short a view, it was incredible enough for me!

but never mind i have got the rest of my life to see one;)

Excellent attitude! I realized that when I went for my first Connecticut Warbler. 45 mins of waiting, then having lunch while everyone else saw it, then returning to find it just gone was a little disheartening, but luckily it did reappear. If it hadn't, there might've been a CT warbler with a moustache in a cowboy hat in my avatar. ;)

i only have one shrike... loggerhead... 8-P

Me too. Watch for irruptives though, for the very first time in my serious birding career, a flock of Common redpolls as sighted at a nearby barrier beach! Pine Siskins in near-tripe-digits and Purple Finches too, and upstate the earlier Bohemian Waxwings on record were spotted this week. There's also the odd shrike, unfortunately none near here... yet....

Give me a break Brendan, if you think that doing that for a CT Warbler was bad, what about me driving 5 hours just to see a Bullock's Oriole, but of course it did allow me to add it to my NYS List.

You said you made a small detour on the way back from somewhere! :C Tsk tsk tsk

Hey, I finally got a Northern Saw-whet Owl for the year yesterday. They are adorable!! It was also my first self-found, excluding the one that a group I was with found and it remained in the same bush a week later when I returned with another group....

lol this is getting abit annoying because ive seen 213 now but you have seen loads of rarities that i haven't. i guess living close to norfolk and minsmere has its advantages ;). but you did once say that there are hardly any birds where you live, so you must have been trying to make us feel sorry ;)
