I have had Black Redstart but even more embarressing is I haven't even manged Common!

Don't feel bad about it, the same happened for me. Before i first saw Common redstarts i had seen several Black redstarts. It took me quite a while to see a Common redstart. However when i did see my first Common, it was Beautiful - a Male in Spring, in a Beech woodland!

fortunately for me i live near the new forest which has plenty of redstarts. if you go out in mid-april when there are still few leafs on the trees you can get cracking views even though not all of them have arrived but they are much easier to see. black redstarts are a bit tricky to see on passage in hampshire. mine was in dorset it was a bit of a fluke but it coincided with a mini influx along the coast.
anyway my point was a bit more about twitching steve. for example i've never seen a yellowlegs and i have dipped great white egret 3 times this year, once last year and seen it once last year. so overall 1/5. but i have seen many abroad, as i also have with black redstarts

Taken, so i will censor any twitches from my trip reports then;)

At Flamborough, Filey, Bempton and Spurn this weekend just gone. Highlights included a Pomarine skua over my head at Spurn point. And a Little auk on the sea at Flamborough, lots of other things too.

Pictures and more are on my Blog below:

Had four geese species on one single pond yesterday: Canada, Snow, Barnacle and Pink-footed. Also had a Tundra Swan pair and a self-found King Eider. Pretty great weekend for waterfowl!

Trying to achieve a new year goal - 200 species in my county. I'm only 7 away, and with care it should be doable. I have three easy ducks to locate now that I have a scope (Lesser Scaup, Canvasback and Common Goldeneye) and there are three possible winter finches roaming around (Pine Siskin, Red Crossbill, Common Redpoll). Things still missing but hard to find at this time of year include Pied-billed Grebe, Red-necked Grebe and Winter Wren. That's 202 (minus any rarities) with the best of luck, - and I certainly don't have that!

Today i saw a Jack snipe which i got up to 1/2 inches away from, it was next to my foot! And it stayed in this position (on the ground) for quite some time, an Incredible experience!

More pictures on my Blog.
