for now I'm gonna trash the newsletter idea- We would be starved for content and there would be little point. I may come back to the idea at a later date after all this Christmas rubbish is over and my dreaded science exam etc.

Time spent wishing is time wasted!
This is just me, but I think it is totally unnecessary to send a newsletter. I doubt there's much we can add in it that we wouldn't have covered on the blog, here, or wherever.

Also, I assume what you mean by members of the blog is the posters on this thread, and to send a newsletter to everybody on ar least two continents could get a bit $$$y!

I actually agree with this, although I assumed the newsletter would be via email...

I am sure that the members would post all the info needed on the blog itself, but It up to everyone really

If so, what would be included? Past experiences, what about etc?

Nice to meet you. Thats not a bad total at all, specially for a 14 year old.

...

Gosh - I have just got back from a three hour seawatching session from Starr Gate, Blackpool, and saw exactly 10 birds...not species...birds!

The weather was horrendous, 35mph winds, in my face, horrizontal rain in my face, and to top it off there was the odd sandstorm. The Visibility was terrible! (rarest bird of the day...Common Scoter!!!! Thats it!, off Blackpool, thats like the easiest bird at times, but even this was exiting today!) The only thing I seemed to get was hypothermia!

Anyways. Enough about Complaining, yesterday was superb. Potteric Carr YWT, Doncaster. I've only ever seen a Bittern 3 times, and this is by far the best ever view.

See the Blog for more pics, and he days story(both my personal blog and the YBB)

Good job with the Bittern Zac, unlucky with Starr gate, it's happened to me many a time, whenever i visit Starr gate, i'm always a day before or a day after something big passes by. I really want to have a go at taking a photo of one of the showing Bitterns at the moment but haven't had the time to get there.

I went to Potteric carr early this year and saw a single Bittern at quite a way away, but the 2 Willow tit showed well at the feeding stations. Also i had great views of Lesser redpoll (c50) on the floor.

YBB is the young birders blog, sorry for the subtleness =]
Bitterns really are fab.
Any of you more southernly placed birders know of any decent sites for LSW, i just can't get them anywhere up here, and they even supposively breed on my patch - Brockholes Quarry(well in the wood next to it...)

Forgot to mention my year list is now up to 209, all of 1 lesser redpoll more then my dad!
so hows your year been then folks?

My year's been great. I mentioned the highlights of my local area of the YBB. turns out that Red-necked Grebe, the bird I thought was #200 in my county was #199, but with great luck today I was treated to views of a Marsh Wren, the third new species at my local patch in a week. other than that, finishing off the ABA herons with Least Bittern in April, then seeing two more accidentals was great!

Personally i have had a huge amount of lifers, i didnt keep the exact total but i think i started the year with a list of about 180 and it's know at 223. I saw a red grouse which was an entirely fortunate accident and a bird i didnt think i would see for ages, i saw a red backed shrike down to a few feet and i finally saw my most dipped 'nemesis' the great grey shrike.
I set myself a target of a 180 yearlist after reading 'the big year' last year and am on 209. and counting ;)
I also joined birdforum this year and met you lot which has both improved and inspired my birding!
Cheers guys! :t:

Nice to here it, 'On'.
I have had a great year relly, beating last years total of 205 and getting 222.

highlights - WT Plover, Glossy Ibis, the 3 'common' shrikes, American Robin, Pec Sand, Black Grouse, Blyth's Reed Warbler.

I didn't get as many lifers as 06, but at that time i was ticking common sandpiper!

Next year, I don't think I will year list. It's too time consuming and it takes over your life. I have GCSE's to think of! lol
I think i'll focus on lifers and local Fylde ticks...

Spoke too soon ;), now up too 211 with tundra bean goose(lifer 224) and dartford warbler, of which i had my best views ever and you can reall appreciate how small they would be if they didn't have that whacking great tail stuck on the end!

Had three different owls of two species (barn and short eared) in under an hour today. Also had grey partridge and goldcrest on a short walk around my village today. How did you lot start off your year list?
