Finally managed to break the 160 barrier with Common Whitethroat and Swift from my house while I've been ill off school today. Also a strange new garden tick in the form of a pair of Wheatears:eek!: which alighted in the Hawthorn Bushes at the back of the garden before going down onto my lawn. Not a usual garden species I suspect lol

When this thread says 'young' how young are we talking? I'm 22, and so probably less than half the age of the majority of birdwatchers I ever run into, or is that too old for this?

If it's not too old though - after a quick count up I'm at 101 so far this year - with a lifetime list of 146 in Britain, plus (a rather paltry) 3 more abroad. I only just got back into bird watching last summer, before which I hadn't really done any since primary school.

I think it would be fine to join in. 22 isn't that old I am 19 this year in December. I only have 2 ticks from abroad:-O

Slightly irritatingly, it would probably be more abroad if I'd had better binoculars and being paying more attention. I saw at least one very large raptor on a trip to the Dolomites a few years ago but my rather rubbish 8x21 binoculars of the time werent really up to the job, and if it was anything other than a golden eagle it would have been a lifer. Still... I did get snow finches and alpine choughs out of that trip.

Anyway, my highlights of this year so far:
Mediteranean Gull, Osprey, Water Pipit, Barnacle Goose, Spoonbill

Still missing some pretty obvious ones like Siskin and Swift - hopefully a trip to Rainham marshes next week will get me a few more.

Alex it depends if you can join on when you turned 22. I have said before that if you were 21 at the start of the year you can enter but if you weren't then I'm sorry but you can't compete.
