Young Birders Yearlist Challenge (1 Viewer)

224: Yellow-browed Warbler - Loch of Strathbeg RSPB
225: Little Stint - Cairnbulg

Had a very nice day out today. Went to Strathbeg and spent a couple of hours at the plantation there, which was alive with birds. There were loads of commoner migrants - Goldcrests, Song Thrushes, Redwings, Chiff/Willows, Blackcaps, but more notably amongst them was one Redstart and two Yellow-browed Warblers, only one of which I saw and fleetingly, but a fantastic little bird nonetheless and only my third ever. The other highlight here was a flock of 31 Lapland Buntings, which I picked up when I heard them calling whilst checking the plantation. I had seen 19 earlier, which had surprised me as well and was fantastic, but 31 an absolutely insane total, and only my second sighting of this species ever. Also went for a possible Blyth's Reed Warbler just south of Strathbeg at Rattray, but this was re-identified as a Reed Warbler. Meanwhile, at long last, I managed to get Little Stint for the year just up the road at Cairnbulg Beach. So a good day in the end.

On Tuesday night I'm taking the ferry from Aberdeen to Shetland then taking the plane to Fair Isle. I will be staying in the Obs there for 5 days, then going back to Shetland for a couple of days twitching. Getting very excited now and hoping that I'll see some good stuff. As for what I see, only the future can decide that. :t:

I think I am potentially more jealous of this than I have been of pretty much anything haha (apart from the location of Andrew Kinghorn during autumn haha)

Really? :-O Well you never know, I might not have such a good time and all the birds in the area might clear out, its all down to the luck of the draw! Plus, there should be a good deal locally to keep you entertained :t:.

And Andrew, many congratulations!

Well done Muddy Turnstone, its always very exciting to see mega rarities, especially when they show superbly. And Andrew, 2 Bluetails in two days? You are one lucky man! :t:

I am off on the ferry to Fair Isle tomorrow evening, and will be there and birding by Wednesday. Hopefully I will have a very nice time - it would be lovely if that Olive-backed Pipit hung around another 48 hours :-O.

Wishing you all good birding!
