Up to 158 now - including Glossy Ibis at the Otter Estuary and Solitary Sand at Seaton Marshes on my way down to stay at the Portland Obs for the weekend. And the Green Heron at Heligan on a 'slight detour' on my way home!

Hello everybody,
Sorry I haven't been on recently been very busy! I think I'm up to about 165. I finally got out birding on Saturday to Inner Marsh Farm and saw 3 year/Life Birds ( Curlew sandpiper, Little stint and a awesome White Winged Black Tern ). A awesome return to birding! I also saw a spotted flycatcher earlier in the summer which was also new for me!
Thanks and hope everyone is well!

Woops! I should really update this, went to Norfolk on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of October and got a shed load of year ticks including Wilson's Phal(!) at Welney, Pink feet, Brent Geese and other common stuff I just hadn't caught up with due to never being at the coast. Knot, grey plover, sanderling (lol I know!), Little Stint, Common Scoter, Eider etc. Also added Merlin, Barn owl, Grey Partridge (barny and grey partridge lifers) and others. Also the week before that an after school cycle to twitch the White winged black tern added another lifer to the year list and one of the most amazing bird experiences of my life as the bird fed on the round pond and flew over my head only a couple of feet away from me. Also twitched a Great Grey Shrike at Wormwood Scrubs last monday which added another 1. Totting up on my spreadsheet brings me up to 152.

Having a great time on Scilly. 5 lifers (Red Eyed Vireo, Subalpine Warbler, American Golden Plover, Snow Bunting, Lapland Bunting). Also seen 8 new for the year (Jack Snipe, Water Pipit, Pied Flycatcher, Merlin, Ring Ouzel, Lesser Redpoll, Crossbill and Turtle Dove.) I dont think I updated my list before I came. Will sort it out when I'm back. Who knows what the next two days will bring?

191, Buff-breasted Sandpiper. Finally caught up with one, took to long trying to see it I didn't get chance to try for the Yellow-browed Warblers in Nanquidno

Back from a fantastic trip on Scilly.

Spent the last two days on St Martins, Further 4 lifers (Red Flanked Bluetail, Yellow Browed Warbler, Melodious Warbler, Richard's Pipit). Missed Also further year ticks in the form of a Water Rail and a Red Breasted Merganser. Now on 194 for the year. I know 174 + 19 is 193 but my list shows 194, implying I did not update it before I go.

I've come back for what was, to be honest, a trip of a lifetime on Fair Isle, where I managed to get 8 lifers and 12 year ticks. Birding wise, it really was top quality, as not only was this selection of birds all around at different times in my 6 day stay here, but there were also good numbers of other very nice birds such as Yellow-browed Warblers, Snow and Lapland Buntings, Bramblings, Merlins and Slavonian Grebes and good quanitities of commoner warblers, as well as singles (but not year ticks) of King Eider and Long-eared Owl also seen. There were however "quieter days", and these were normally the days that included nothing new but the same scattering of birds from the previous day. The island was pretty bleak too, and required a lot of walking so you ended up feeling pretty tired at the end of each day, but the Observatory was fantastic, the cliffs were breathtaking, and the birds were fantastic. It was unforgettable, and I'll no doubt be going back.

I am not going to go on about most of the Fair Isle experience in this post (for that stay tuned to my photography blog, which will account the trip), but what I will say now was that my best days were my second day, Thursday 14th, where I saw Little Bunting and Blyth's Reed Warbler within a few minutes of one another, and Saturday 16th, when I managed to see King Eider, Rough-legged Buzzard, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Red-flanked Bluetail, Grasshopper Warbler, Yellow-browed Warbler, Jack Snipe and Waxwing all on the same day (although YB Warbler, Jack Snipe and Blyth's Reed had been seen on previous days). The bird of the trip had to be the Red-flanked Bluetail, which was my dream bird to see on Fair Isle and was an absolutely fantastic bird that I got lovely views of. It was also relieving to finally see and get good views of two bad bogey birds of mine -Jack Snipe and Grasshopper Warbler. I think this trip is pretty much the climax to my year, and from now on its going to be difficult to get many more year ticks, with 240 seeming like an ambitious target! Attached below are a few photos of the scarcer/nicer things that I managed to see. For more photos from the holiday, see my Flickr and my photography blog (flick account is linked in signature) both of which will be updated in the near future.

I'm glad to hear that you have all had some good birding as well :t:

Its just envy! I would love to see Blyth's Reed Warbler & Little Bunting. I am really surpised you didn't see a MEGA to be honest. I managed to see 2 Red-flanked Bluetails whilst you were away, the second one showed really well.

I am glad you had a nice time and got plenty of lifers.:t:
