Currently: Jack Snipe - had a couple fly away from me, but I need to 'see' a bird properly (or at least see something diagnostic) to be able to tick it off. Twite - had a flock fly past on a guided tour in Norfolk, but with gale-force wind and driving rain in my face (and on my glasses, and on my binoculars...) I saw nothing. Previously: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker - Had one fly past my head in Serbia, one go through the hotel carpark whilst I was checking out, one fly away across the treetops in the New Forest. Even found a nest tree in a London Park, but the day I visited was the one day they weren't seen. Eventually persistence paid off and I saw one at Stocker's Lake last year. Hazelhen - Heard one on a tour in Sweden. Heard one on another tour in Sweden. Heard one in Finland, and then I was the only member of a 16-strong tour group that couldn't see either of a pair of them by the road because of where I was sat in the minibus on the same tour. I returned to Finland last year and we eventually caught up with one on the last morning. Grasshopper Warbler - I seem to hear at least one or two every spring, but never get a glimpse. Then, finally, I saw two of them at Rainham this past weekend. First lifer since September.
