Info from Lynx: They expect the third print run for this book to become available by Dec 4th. So they either have a real "blockbuster" or else they did not dare doing a large enough second run. :-O

Which means that if this becomes a 'collectible', these won't be 'first / first', they'll be 'first / third' so less desirable :t:

Don't know if you've seen this?

https://www.apex-expeditions.com/blog/peter-harrison-seabirds-new-identification-guide/

'Q: When will Seabirds: The New Identification Guide be published?

Peter — As we say in the business, the book is in press. In other words, it is being put together as we speak. We print a few more pages each day. But, with over 600 pages, 239 of which are full color plates with over 3,500 illustrations, this takes some time to put together. We hope to have this on the bookshelves by December at the latest. And the official launch will be in January of 2021.'

This ties in with what I read, the launch was due to be on the cruise I think.

Yes, I have seen it, thanks. The comment that it's "in press" back in March makes it still more peculiar that no news of the book has since surfaced.

John et al,
here you can find some information on the new edition of Seabirds. It will obviously be printed by Lynx.

I can also inform that the Swedish illustrator Hans Larsson shipped more than 100 plates to Lynx in Spain aimed for the book back in August. (This according to his Instagram).

Needless to say no firm information about the publication date thus far on the Lynxeds website.

Well based on the fact that it's not mentioned on the Lynx website in the 'coming soon' section, it's clearly not, coming soon!

For those like me who didn't know what a 'galley-proof' was

Thanks for this. Even though the publication date remains unclear at least I now know for sure who's publishing it. From what little can be seen in the 'blurb' it promises to live up to expectations.

I think it very unusual, that Lynx aren't advertising it yet if it's anticipated to be on the shelves next month?

Absolutely, which is why I'm rather surprised by the suggestion it'll appear so soon. At least Lynx doesn't have the reputation that some publishers have acquired of promising too early & delivering late.

I just joined the mailing list at the second link posted by Jonas and I also just wrote to Lynx to ask what they can tell us, so we'll see.

Would be a surprise if they actually have stock, it's not supposed to be available until 10th Dec.

My two copies were ordered a long time ago, one hardcover and one soft.

I´ve ordered my copy back in June and also got the confirmation from NHBS that same is underway.

Just ordered mine with NHBS. They said I should receive it by the end of the week.
I had a call this morning and was told that Wildsounds had received a limited number of the hardcover edition but not many and no softcovers yet.

Unusual that they're available almost three weeks before the official release date.

Having writen to Lynx last week for details of this book, I just got following reply.

'Many thanks for your message and apologies for the late reply.

Yes, we are proud to be publishing Peter Harrison's new Seabirds book. It is due in the first quarter of next year and we are currently finalizing the book cover and web page with the information, so please expect this soon.'

WildGuides have now posted two spreads from their forthcoming 'Flight Identification of European Passerines' book. The second one on Bee-eater gives some idea of the sort of treatment we can expect in the book. I confess that I find the photos of Bee-eaters rather more useful than the handsome but stylised artwork. Apparently the book has now been dispatched for printing although the publication date is still May 2021 (which is also when their European guide is due out - could be an expensive month!).
