In March 2011 I had posted that a trip to Florida gave me 5 new life birds, in order seen:

Swallow-tailed Kite
Roseate Spoonbill
White-eyed Vireo
Wilson's Plover
Florida Scrub-Jay

Since then the split of Snowy Plover/Kentish Plover made the Snowy Plover that I saw on Sanibel Island a lifer, so that the Florida Scrub-Jay was actually lifer #719. No lifers since then but a planned trip to the Caribbean in Feb/March 2012 should rectify that.

Good to hear from you, Doug!

I see that this is only your second post to the BirdForum, so may I take this opportunity to officially extend a warm "Welcome" to our Forum.

We are glad to have you aboard!

My last lifer was quite a naff bird for the UK - RING OUZEL - this is one of those species that I knew would find me eventually so I never looked for it.

Been wanting them for so long. They have such a charm.

New favourite bird.

But on the other side I still have to find a Marbled Godwit, Western+Eared Grebe and Surfbird somewhere. As well as Black Turnstone. Marina Del Rey isn't being nice yet.

More where that came from. Was afraid that the white was going to bleed as it did on my Cabbage White butterfly shots but they turned out fine. And to top it off a nice sunset on the drive back.

Yeah, there's other pictures but Photoshop is being too slow for me today.

At my local park. Was hoping to see the former, but wasn't expecting it. Had a flock of 22 on the little pond. The latter I found via pishing. If I didn't hear that one rustle when it switched branches I never would have seen it.

That will go up to 491 if that hummingbird from long ago ends up being Costa's, but I see no reasonable doubt.

Wrapping up my South Florida trip, with about 7 new ABA birds and 6 lifers.

Purple Gallinule
Limpkin
Muscovy Duck
Spot-breasted Oriole
Short-tailed Hawk
Snail Kite

Hopefully add Nanday (Black-hooded) Parakeet next week, and a Sedge Wren wouldn't be bad either
