I think that quite a few birders are competitive although this usually manifests itself in listing, and most of all, in attempting to ID a bird before anyone else can. At times, I feel like some people attempt to show off, or maybe it's just that they would like to be recognized for their knowledge in the only circumstances where they feel that others can appreciate or supposedly be impressed by it. In any case, regarding myself being competitive, I think it's fun to compete in bird races, birdathons, and their ilk but mostly for the sake of spending a crazy 24 hours of solid birding madness rather than for winning.</p></blockquote><p></p>
