It is exasperating, isn’t it? I’ll use simple sentences. A friend wants to buy a low power binocular. The individual likes my 7X42 Leica. They cannot afford a Leica. I suggested the Zen 7X36 everyone loves so much. HE went to: http://www.zen-ray.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_66&products_id=250 and asked me to LOOK at the page. HE saw $649 with NO MENTION of any discount. Bummer, right? HE then found this page: http://www.zen-ray.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65_66 and asked if there were two prices…one with the code and one without. I said it sure looked like it, which meant there were two prices for many models. Then I read… “I checked with ZEN-RAY directly and that is not totally the case. The ZEN ED2 7x36 is the only model that has gone up (reflecting the Manufacture's Suggested Retail Price for now as stock is unavailable) but that may not be permanent. “by xmeecosmic which confirms what I said. Then I’m accused of covert operations, deception and, I assume, the cause of global unrest. Well, the Zen site is confusing, reminiscent of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul where pricing is a test of will. If you remember the “code” you get a discount. If not, what happens? The 7X36 (that I recommended) is clearly priced at $649 and that is a big jump in price, assuming my memory is still intact. Perhaps Zen would do well to clean up their website and simplify pricing. Then again they have a legion of posters willing to save them the time and aggravation of presenting the customer with a SIMPLE, unmistakable pricing structure. John PS I’ve said some very nice things about the Chinese http://birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=147933 and just a tad of praise for the Zen 8X43 http://birdforum.net/showpost.php?p=1459622&postcount=142 The adage “Never let the facts get in the way of your opinions” had BF written all over it.
