Zonotrichia capensis perezchinchillorum (Phelps Jr & Aveledo, 1984) OD Dos nuevas subespecies de aves (Troglodytidae, Fringillidae) del Cerro Marahuaca, Territorio Amazonas, Venezuela, Boletín de la Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales, 39(142), p.7 (not seen by me or can't remember).

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims:

Luis A. Pérez Chinchilla often worked with the junior author at the Phelps Ornithological Collection and they co-wrote 'Descripción de nueve subespecies nuevas y comentarios sobre dos especies de aves de Venezuela' (1994), while with Aveledo and others he wrote 'An annotated list of the birds of the Cerro Tamacuarí region, Serranía de Tapirapecó, Federal Territory of Amazonas, Venezuela' (1995). The trinomial also includes Gilberto Pérez Chinchilla, whom Phelps employed as a collector. The two of them are described in the etymology (in translation) '... who over 20 years have collaborated with great dedication to the study of our avifauna'. We have not been able to establish how the two men were related.

If we look here...

...and the brothers Perez-Chinchilla (deceased).

So one question solved as they are brothers.

The old key had:
Luis A. Pérez Chinchilla (fl. 1991) Venezuelan ornithologist, and Gilberto Pérez Chinchilla (fl. 1984) Venezuelan ornithologist (syn. Zonotrichia capensis roraimae).

Here p. 82 from 2001:

... Miguel Lentino and the late Gilberto Pérez-Chinchilla (Coleccio ́n Ornitologica Phelps)...

So at least Gilberto Pérez-Chinchilla was already dead in 2001.

So the questions are:
  1. What's the A. in Luis A. Pérez Chinchilla? But see here as Luis Antonio Pérez Chinchilla
  2. Life dates of both brothers?
Regarding Luis A. Pérez Chinchilla he was as well co-author of...

...and may or may not others. I have not been able to establish a relationship to here.

Re. the two brothers Gilberto Pérez Chinchilla and Luis Antonio Pérez Chinchilla (Venezuelan ornithologist, collectors, preparators, etc.), nowadays apparently both deceased (prior to 2017, and Gilberto even earlier, prior to, or in, 2001). Though no Death -, nor Birth records found, on neither one of them.

In any case, I don't think any one of their names (surnames, that is) should be hyphenated, as Chinchilla most likely was their Mother's name. Though this I don't know for sure, but it sure looks like it ...

Note that in the paper HISTÓRICO DA EXPLORAÇÃO ORNITOLÓGICA NO ESTADO DE RORAIMA, BRASIL, by Marcos Pérsio Dantas Santos & Marcelo de Sousa e Silva (here, in; Atualidades Ornitológicas No 133 - Setembro/Outubro 2006), the former one, Gilberto, is mentioned as nothing but:
Gilberto Pérez, a serviço da Colleción Ornitológica Phelps de Caracas (COP)

And here, he's simply Mr: "Pérez C."

Just some, additional info (and a minor correction) on those two Papers:

• Aveledo Hostos, R. & L. A. Pérez Chinchilla. 1989.
• Aveledo Hostos, R. & L. A. Pérez Chinchilla. 1991.

Also (re. the Trochilidae) see here.

There might also be yet another (possibly even later) Paper, by the same two Authors: "1994". Descripción de nueve subespecies nuevas y comentarios sobre dos especies de aves de Venezuela, apparently published in Boletín Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales "44" (?!?): pp. 229-257, a paper commented here, as: "Separata del Boletín de la Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales - Tomo XLIV - Enero 1994 - Número 148-Págs. 229a 257".

Disclaimer; the latter (3) Papers allegedly published in, or as supplements to: Boletín de la Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales, are all unseen by me.

Thus, take it (all) for what, or whatever, it's worth.

Björn

PS. And Martin, ... I don't think neither one of the two Pérez Chinchilla guys (not even their Mother) had anything to do with the (pet) mammal (Short-tailed) Chinchilla, today's Chinchilla chinchilla. That one was described way earlier, by Lichtenstein in 1829 as "Eriomys chinchilla". ;)
