My profile picture shows a male and female Monistria cicatricosa, a member of the Gaudy Grasshopper family, which I photographed near Ayers Rock in 1990. It is the only known record of this species apart from two specimens which were collected in the 19th century.
Lockdown walk this morning. I honestly believe the Test Valley is as good as New Forest for Hawfinches. Other highlights seen today in 5 miles were Firecrest, Golden Plover, Brambling, Redpoll, a nice flock of Yellowhammer and Reed Buntings, Red Kite and Peregrine.

Two more Hawfinches this morning, Mottisfont area. Plus some good set side areas with a few finches and Yellowhammers.
Into full lockdown now, so even the Test Valley is off limits for the next few weeks. Local dog walks from home have brought me Firecrest, and Shelduck, plus a nice flock of Lapwing.
Weirdest Christmas ever - the worrying thing about spending so much time in isolation is there’s no one to tell you if you’re going insane - I mean how would you know right?

LOL! I just assume I've been crazy all along ;)
Enjoyable day on Hampshire coast and New Forest. Started well with a GN Diver and Marsh Harrier, finished well with 4 Spoonbill. Just the New Forest bit in the middle that went a bit flat. 85 species for the day. I've a feeling no.86 was out of site behind a bank at Keyhaven, being well and truly mobbed by a Peregrine!

WhatsApp from sister - cat broken her leg and in plaster - no weight-bearing allowed ...

Sister: “Hell on earth she’s a nightmare already taken one cast off, hence bucket on the head!”

“Going to be a long 4-6 weeks !!!”

Me: 😂
So after days of a JCB going backwards and forwards in front of my living room window, my neighbours have a brand new driveway and I have sand spilt all over my front garden and a plastics recycling bin full of half eaten pasties and sandwich wrappers
And the views ...Right back atcha! 👍
