Identification

Distribution

Found in Africa south of the Sahara. Rare vagrant to the western Palearctic: a handful of records for the Canary Islands.

Taxonomy

This monotypic species is considered to belong to the genus Crex by some authorities. The genus Crecopsis only contains one species, African Crake, and would therefore disappear if this species is moved to Crex.
