Certhilauda brevirostris

Identification

18-20 cm. Streaked buff-grey head and back, grey wings, cream underparts with dark streaking on the breast and flanks, long-tail and long curved bill.

Distribution

South Africa - limited to the Overberg district from Cape Agulhas to Mossel Bay. Listed as Near-threatened due to its limited distribution.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Habitat

Sparsely vegetated shrublands.

Behaviour

It nests on the ground.

The diet includes seeds and insects.
