Overview

Barrington Tops National Park is 320 km (199 miles) north of Sydney, in the North Coast Region, NSW, Australia. It covers an area of 74,567 hectares (745.67 sq. kms or 288 sq. miles). The park is located on the site of an ancient volcano and has varied habitats from subtropical rainforests in the valleys, to subalpine woodland on the plateau. Birdlife is prolific in the park, as is the other wildlife: mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, and there is also a wide variety of plants. The park is a very important area, protecting more than 50 rare or threatened species and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, which are World Heritage sites.
