Identification

Distribution

Africa: As far north as Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Kenya and south to South Africa.

Taxonomy

Lybius torquatus has seven subspecies:

  • L. t. torquatus ;
  • L. t. zombae;
  • L. t. pumilio;
  • L. t. irroratus;
  • L. t. congicus;
  • L. t. vivacens; and
  • L. t. bocagei.

Habitat

Woodlands, gardens.

Behaviour

Feeds mainly on fruit.

Breeding: Nests in a hole, usually excavated in the dead trunk of a tree. Parasitised by Lesser Honetguide.
