Description

Identification

Black Baza Aviceda leuphotes RANGE Southern Asia. Breeds in the foothills of the Himalayas and east across southern China to Hainan.

A summer visitor to breeding range moving south to winter in southern India and South-East Asia south to Sumatra and less commonly to western Java.

HABITAT Forest and plantations, often along rivers and sometimes near villages.

SUBSPECIES Five subspecies recognised: nominate race breeds in the Himalayas, burmana in Burma and Indochina, syama in southern China, wolfei in Sichuan and andamanica in the Andaman Islands.
