Identification

  • Black
  • Greenish-blue throat patch
  • White patch on each side of the chest
  • Iridescent blue shoulders
  • White-edged undertail-coverts
  • Black, forked tail
  • Long, thin, straight black bill
  • Red legs

Female is drabber than the male

Distribution

Western slope of Central Andes and Eastern Andes of Colombia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Humid montane forests, particularly with oaks, parkland and riverine forests.

Behaviour

Breeding is thought to take place between June and October.
