Identification

  • 20cm
  • All black

Male

  • Blue sheen to plumage
  • Tail is long and graduated
  • Black bill
  • Dark brown eyes

Female smaller than the male

  • Dark grey

Juveniles are greyer with browner wings.

Distribution

Cebu (south-central Philippines)

Habitat

Forest, dense thickets, bamboo groves, scrub, and plantations.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects, particularly beetles.

Breeding

It builds a cup-shaped nest, placed in the sawed or broken ends of bamboo stalks. The clutch consists of 2-3 eggs.
