Identification

13–14 cm (5-5½ in)

  • Pale brown, dark streaked upperparts
  • Rufous crown, feather sometimes erected to form a crest
  • Pale underparts
  • Small dark patch on side of neck

Distribution

Africa and Arabia
Eastern Africa: Eritrea, Ethiopia.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Two subspecies are recognized[1].

  • C. b. blanfordi:
  • C. b. erlangeri

Rufous-capped Lark was recently split from Blanford's Lark.

Habitat

Open grassland, stoney areas and bare ground. Rolling hills

Behaviour

Diet

They are ground feeders. Their diet consists mostly of small seeds, along with some insects, such as grasshoppers and beetles.

Breeding

There is very little information. The clutch consists of two to five eggs.
