Identification
Green body and breast, blue throat, rufous tail tip and crissum, black bill with yellow upper mandible, white band at the base, rufous patch near the base of the upper mandible. Sexes alike, females smaller.
Distribution
Costa Rica and western Panama.
Taxonomy
Often considered a subspecies of Emerald Toucanet Aulacorhynchus prasinus.
Habitat
Mountain forest.
Behaviour
They nest in old woodpecker holes. 2-4 white eggs are laid and incubated for 15 days.
The diet includes fruits and insects, and other birds' eggs.
