Identification
Bright purple with black wings and tail, bright green chin and crown.
Distribution
Known to science from a single skin obtained in Bogotá, Colombia early in the 20th century. No living specimens have ever been found, and the species is assumed to be extinct. However, recent reports indicate that it has been rediscovered?
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
The sole specimen has in the past been suspected to be of hybrid origin, but DNA studies have validated that it is a species and that it probably is currently placed in the wrong genus.
Habitat
From location of specimen, it is assumed that it lived in the Cloud Forest and shrubland, between 1200 and 3400 m ASL.
