Identification

25cm

  • Chestnut brown back
  • Pink breast
  • Brown-grey cheeks
  • Grey crown, nape, throat
  • Brown wings
  • White-tipped brownish tail
  • Red legs

Distribution

Central America: endemic to Panama.

Taxonomy

This species is sometimes included in Gray-headed Dove (Leptotila plumbeiceps)[1].

Subspecies[2]

There are 2 subspecies:

  • L. b. battyi:
  • Isla Coiba (off south-central Panama)
  • L. b. malae:
  • Pacific slope of Panama (southern Veraguas and w Herrera); Cébaco Island

Habitat

High woodlands and forest, swamps.
