There are 8 subspecies:
- A. v. saphiroi:
- A. v. goodsoni:
- A. v. neumanni:
- A. v. chobiensis:
- North-eastern Namibia to southern Zaire, western Tanzania, northern Botswana and Mozambique
- A. v. marungensis:
- A. v. namibicus:
- North-eastern and central Namibia
- A. v. exasperatus:
- A. v. vaalensis:
- Southern Botswana to southern Mozambique, South Africa and western Lesotho
Of these, subspecies marungensis, along with daviesi are considered invalid[2].
Habitat
Dry lowland grassland.
