Sitta neglecta

Identification

13cm

  • Grey upperparts
  • Rufous belly and underparts
  • Fine chestnut scallops on undertail-coverts
  • Short black eyestripe
  • Dark iris
  • Grey bill and legs

Distribution

From Burma to south-eastern Yunnan (China), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and southern Vietnam.
Common in most of its range.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch and Indian Nuthatch.

Habitat

Moist lowland and hill forests.

Behaviour

Breeding

It nests in a hole or crevice.

Diet

The diet includes insects, nuts and seeds.
Forages singly, in pairs or small groups.
