Identification

Distribution

South America where widespread in tropical areas. Breeds in eastern Panama and from Colombia and Venezuela to Paraguay and south-eastern Brazil. Resident, possibly with some dispersal.

Habitat

Swampy forest areas, ponds and streams, sometimes wet savanna.
