Accipiter castanilius

Identification

Length 30-36 cm.

Dark upper parts with three white tail spots. Throat white (barred ruface on female), breast and belly white with rufous bars, flanks chestnut, and vent white. The eyes, cere and legs are yellow.

Distribution

Africa
Western Africa: Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DRC and Angola
Eastern Africa: Uganda and Burundi.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Subspecies beniensis is not recognised by all authorities^[2].

Habitat

Dense forests.
