Microhierax caerulescens

Identification

14-16cm. Female larger.

Distribution

Southern Asia: breeds from the Himalayas, northern India and Burma east to Burma and south to peninsular Thailand. Resident.

Two subspecies are recognized[1]:

Habitat

Open dry, deciduous forest and forest edge, grassy woodlands and cultivated land, Occurs up to 2,800m in the Himalayas.

Behaviour

Its flight is shrike-like.

Diet

The diet includes insects (particularly favouring dragonflies) and small birds.

Breeding

The clutch consists of 3-4 eggs.
