Identification
Length 28cm
Dark brown above streaked with white and spotted with black. Breast rufous spotted with white, belly tawny-buff. Crown blackish, sides of head, throat and foreneck whitish. Legs dull orange.
Distribution
South America: found from central Ecuador to central Peru. Resident.

Habitat
Open woodland, grassland and shrubland.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes fruit, invertebrates, flower buds, leaves, seeds, and roots.
Breeding
They are ground nesters. The male incubates the eggs; the young fledge about 2-3 weeks later.
