Identification

45–52 cm

Distribution

South America: found in western Ecuador and adjacent north-western Peru

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
It was formerly placed in the genus Leucopternis.

Habitat

Montane evergreen and semi-deciduous forests.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of small birds and rodents, lizards, snakes, frogs, worms and insects.
