Identification

41·5–54 cm

  • Greyish upperparts

Distribution

Southeastern Iran to Indian subcontinent, Indochina and Hainan Islands.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Lowlands to 1000m, mostly along large rivers, seacoasts and islands, ravel banks or rocks along the river or lakes, coastal salt pans

Behaviour

Their main diet is crabs, but they will also eat insects and birds eggs.
