North America: endemic to the Caribbean (West Indies): found in the Greater Antilles and Cuba

- A. c. ekmani:
It was formerly placed in the genus Caprimulgus.
Habitat
Open woodland, swamp edges and riversides.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists almost entirely of insects.
