Identification

10–11·5 cm

  • Dark-tipped red bill
  • Blackish crown

Distribution

Endemic to Mexico.

Taxonomy

Green-fronted Hummingbird is sometimes placed in genus Agyrtria.

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • A. v. viridifrons:
  • Southern Mexico (eastern Guerrero to western Oaxaca; winters from eastern Oaxaca to central Chiapas)
  • A. v. wagneri: Cinnamon-sided Hummingbird'
  • Southern Mexico (central and south Oaxaca)

Two additional subspecies viridifrons, and wagneri are not generally recognised[2].

Habitat

Dry or semi-dry pine-oak forests and scrub .

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of nectar and insects.
