Identification

8·5–9 cm

  • Dark tawny-brown head
  • Slender bill

Distribution

Africa: Senegal to southern Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and northern Angola.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • S. v. flaviventris:
  • S. v. virens:
  • S. v. tando:
  • S. v. baraka:

S. v. flaviventris is sometimes split as Yellow-bellied Crombec[2].

An addition subspecies S. v. meridionalis is usually considered invalid[2].

Habitat

Forest, forest edge, secondary growth and thickets in woodland.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects, ants, beetles, flies etc.
