Larus glaucoides

Identification

Pale grey, yellow-green bill. Immatures very pale grey.

Distribution

Breeds in northern Canada and Greenland; Iceland, winters south to northerneastern United States.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Coasts and cliffs. In winter associates with other gulls at landfills, rivers, and other gathering places.

Behaviour

It builds a nest lined with grass, moss or seaweed on the ground or cliff. 2-3 light brown eggs are laid.

They scavenge as well as seeking suitable small prey. These birds forage while flying, picking up food at or just below the water's surface, also feeds while walking or swimming.
