Identification

Around 16 cm
Male

  • Glossy-black upperside
  • White patches at wings (greater coverts and scapulars)
  • White rump with orange to orange-red patch
  • Black tail with white edges
  • Black stripe through eye
  • White supercilium meets above the bill
  • Sides of head, chin and upper throat white
  • Orange to orange-red breast patch
  • White underside

Female Similar to male except that black ares mostly are dark brownish-grey and orange is grey.

Distribution

Plains of central Myanmar

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Jerdon's Minivet was recently split from White-bellied Minivet

Habitat

Found below 1000 m asl. Inhabits semi-desert, dry farming areas, thorn-scrub and other areas with scattered trees and bushes.

Behaviour

No details available but probably similar to White-bellied Minivet except in voice.
