Apalis kaboboensis is known only from Mt Kabobo, west of Lake Tanganyika, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where suitable habitat covers no more than 2,000 km2 .

Habitat
It is found in the canopy of montane forest where it has been recorded between 1,600 and 2,480 m. There is no recent information on its habitat, but the closely related Chestnut-throated Apalis A. porphyrolaema occurs in montane forest and also secondary growth, gallery forest, forest edge, medium-sized trees and liana tangles. Montane forest on Mt Kabobo is entirely unprotected and if further information indicates that this habitat is threatened, the species will need to be considered for threatened status.
Behaviour
A. porphyrolaema is found in pairs or small family parties, occasionally of 6-8, and feeds on insects and spiders.
