East and central Africa
Western Africa: occurs only in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi
Southern Africa: found only in South Africa

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies^[1]:

• B. o. oreophilus:

• Highlands of Ethiopia to Tanzania and Malawi

• B. o. trizonatus:

• Montane forests of South Africa

Habitat

Montane forests and grasslands.
