Identification
Length 18-20 cm.
An all-black Boubou.
Distribution
Tropical Africa: Highland forests of the Albertine Rift, south-western Cameroon and adjacent Nigeria, and the island of Bioko in the Gulf of Guinea.
Taxonomy
Laniarius poensis has three subspecies:[1]
- L. p. camerunensis
- L. p. poensis
- Island of Bioko
- L. p. holomelas
- Albertine Rift Mountains (Eastern DRC, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi)
Habitat
Montane forests, forest edge and clearings in forest.
Behaviour
A "skulker"; keeps to undergrowth and thicket.
Vocalisation
A variety of calls, usually in duet.
