Location: W Andes, Colombia

Identification

Upperparts brown, throat and sides of head white striped black with white supercilium, grey breast, brown flanks, and central belly barred with black.

Juveniles much darker than adults.

Similar species

Most similar to Gray-breasted Wood-Wren but differs in having shorter tail, longer legs, and in the barred belly, and most importantly, its song is different.

Distribution

Colombia (the Munchique massif of the Western Andes).

Taxomomy

This monotypic species was described in 2003

Habitat

High elevation elfin/cloud forest at higher elevation than Gray-breasted Wood-Wren which is found in full size cloud forest as well as drier forest both east and west of this species.

Behaviour

Prefers dense forest floor with moss and epiphytes. The birds are found in family flocks and are territorial.

Food is exclusively insects and other arthropods.
