- Petroica multicolor
Identification
13 cm
Male
- Black head and upperside with large white spot on forehead and on wing (median to greater coverts and bases on some flight feathers)
- Tail black with small white corners
- Lower throat, breast and most of belly scarlet, rest including undertail coverts white
- Legs and bill black, eye brown
Female
- Upperside paler version of male with brown replacing the black and only hints of pale mark on wing and forehead
- Throat and chin pale
- Orange-scarlet where male is scarlet on underside, rest off white
Immature is similar to female but lacks the reddish on the breast
Distribution
Norfolk island, Australia
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Recently split from Pacific Robin
Habitat
Prefers mature forest, may occur in palms and olives.
Behaviour
Insects and other invertebrates.
Vocalisation
Song is a couple of notes followed by a chirping series.
