Identification
22 cm
- Mainly black with large white spots
- Rump and flanks chestnut
- Forehead, face, throat and upper breast rufous
- Hindclaw very long and straight
- Bill elevated at base
Distribution
Local along Andes from Venezuela south to northern Peru.

Habitat
Cloud and temperate rainforest and elfin forest, often near bamboo.

Diet includes both arthropods and plant material.
