Locally in sub-Saharan Africa

Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- S. r. bonapartii - Sierra Leone to Gabon and Congo
- S. r. elizabethae - C African Rep. to ne Zaire, Ethiopia, Uganda and w Kenya
- S. r. rufa - Central Kenya to s Zaire, Angola and South Africa
Habitat
Riparian marshes; reeds, swamps, tall watergrasses.
Behaviour
Call is ooouup-oooup.
