Africa
Western Africa: occurs only in Chad
Eastern Africa: Sudan, South Sudan) and Eritrea.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are three subspecies[1]:
- C. r. ruficeps:
- Chad, southwestern Sudan, and southwestern South Sudan
- C. r. scotopterus:
- Central Sudan (White and Blue Nile valleys) to Eritrea
- C. r. mongalla:
- South central South Sudan (upper White Nile) and northern Uganda
Mongalla from southern Sudan and northern Uganda has been treated as full species, Mongalla Cisticola.
The formerly recognized subspecies guinea has turned out to be synonymous with Dorst's Cisticola.
Habitat
Dry savanna and swamps.
